horseatingweeds Posted December 21, 2010 Report Share Posted December 21, 2010 I've got this old laptop that is in extreme need of a reinstall. It didn't come with a CD. It's obviously an OEM version. I tried running the winnt32.exe file in the i386 folder, but that says it won't do its thing because I'm running a later version of Windows.So how should I go about reinstalling? There is no recovery partition. Would it work to make a recovery CD/DVD and us that to run a fresh install? I've also got a retail copy of XP. Makcalable Posted December 21, 2010 Report Share Posted December 21, 2010 the answer to your question about OEM key being used with retails CD = No.It is possible to make a new CD out of the retail one you have that accepts OEM keys.
