Windows XP boot problem

hello , i recently got a problem when i boot my computer , if i restart windows it stuck on the first screen and then it can only continue if i manually reboot it from the box via the button ... i tried to reset all BIOS settings back to default but still nothing... i also tried the Fail-Safe defaults and then it asked me to change from ASCII to IDE or something similar , i tried even the Yes or No but nothing changed..

Anyone can give some help over here?

Can you give more info on your system please? this will help get to the root of the problem quicker.

also can you get in via safemode with command prompt privilage? if so do that and run SFC /SCANNOW its a long shot but always start with the easiest fix first :)

have you recently install any programs/updates/drivers???

you maybe should run MalwareBytes Free too on full scan.

let us know how you go.

I actually dont know exactly the system specs but i can say its a medium power computer , i can get in windows , all run as they should the problem is only with the boot.

Probably the person who owns the computer has installed some programs which i also dont know..

I will try to run MalwareBytes as soon as possible and reply back.

Do you have a winxp CD installation?

MSCONFIG

Click the Start button and select Run. In the Open box, type MSCONFIG and click OK. This will open a utility window;

select diagnose startup under load basic devices.this should give you an idea of what the issue maybe, hopefully.

Am not sure how experienced you are with windows xp but SEE HERE for info on Diagnosing Boot problems.

if you are unsure about anything just ask.
