sybaris
Recently upgraded my machine.Installed an ASUS DRW-24b1st DVD-RW drive among other things. It reads commercial CDs/DVDs fine but will not read some data CD's I made prior to the upgrade.I tried the auto fix on the Windows site but nothing changed. I also read where if you delete the upper and lower filters for the drive in the registry that that will usually work but I didn't see the filters for that drive in the registry. I have also reloaded the firmware and deleted the driver, still no change. I run XP, my wifes machine runs Vista and her machine can read the CD.Any help much appreciated. Makcalable
check the device manager for yellow exclamation marks for the drive.or it could be the registry is corrupt.Run sfc /scannow from elevated command prompt hit enter and let it scan then reboot.and or download Ccleaner and run the reg cleaner.it could be your drive is faulty.Just double check it is fitted securely, your old drive may have a different type of connector built into the drive itself. If yours does, make sure your new drive has the same type of connector.
