beefWellington
I have a Windows 7 driver installation question that has been nagging me for awhile. I now turn to the forums for help.If I install a driver and not all of the files are present, I will get the error message "The system cannot find the file specified." But the problem is that it doesn't actually tell me what file it can't find. There is a large empty space right underneath the error, as if something should be in that spot, but the file name is not listed there. In Windows XP, if you received the same error, it would show you the name of the missing fileMy question is this... Is there a way to make Windows 7 display the actual file it is looking for, like it did in Windows XP?** Note - I am not looking for help installing drivers, or for alternative means of installing drivers. The above picture is just an example, it's not a driver I am having problems with. I just want to know if it's possible to figure out the missing file name. ɹəuəllıʍ ʇɐb
Welcome to the Windows Forum. How do you install that driver; from Update Driver in Device Manager, or from a downloaded installer from the Intel site?If I got a message like that, I would go and check the Event Viewer if there is any additional information available. beefWellington
The above example is if you were to update the driver manually. Like if you were to click 'Update Driver', then 'Browse my computer for driver software', then 'Browse' to the directory with the INF file in it, and then click 'Next'.The error message does show up in Event Viewer. But the only file it lists is the INF file, not the missing file.
