Guest Shirley_Crabtree
Don't download with a manager such as getright or dap.Disable AV software when installing the mods. Are the games installed in their default directories or do you install them into a personallised folder ?(such as "Damos_stuff" or summat.) Guest Damo
Could this be due to bad sectors or clusters on my hard drive??????? especially if the bad clusters/sectors are where the game files im installing to are???Dunno?Perhaps its time for a total unconditional format as this bloody thing keeps restarting on its own.....back to the laptop i think! :D
Guest spook
I dunno either, Bigdamouk, but I think it is a bit too much to reinstall everything including the OS.Maybe you could at least burn the files to disk and try installing them on someone elses PC? Would at least indicate if the files downloaded are sound or not.Bad clusters - think this very unlikely, but you could do a disk check. In your circumstances, I'd be tempted to firstly totally uninstall everything relating to UT and just keep trying to install those mod files - do what is directed, patch and everything and then if no joy read the support stuff either official site or users forum or something - wrong way round of course (should try UT sites first), but that's the way I do it. (Tsk - just lazy - and stoopid.)Where did you get the mods from? Maybe post a link to the UT 2003 post above if you could - thanks.
Guest spook
Oh yeah - have you tried downloading the files with/out a download manager. They can corrupt large downloads particulalry - you could try downloading raw with windows or better still, a different download manager (if this applies).
Guest spook
Shirley_Crabtree's advice looks good - didn't see that! So, have you tried that then?
Guest Damo
ive tried uninstalling the games time and time again, and downloaded the mods and patches over and over again.....i dont use a dload manager, i have bband so i just use the windows dload option....but no matter how may times i do it it still comes up with this error......i tried disabling my AV (norton) and at one point even my firewall (norton Aswell) but still to no avail....this is whats let me to belive it could be bad sectors......i did a scan disk on thorough and it reported bad clester but fixed them......but its still not workin????Im totally stumped....and im usually quite proficient on the Techie side...Oh well..perhaps i just wasnt destined to enjoy games such as Strike Force....and Tactical Ops and even Counter strike!!!!!  Quite annoying when the patches are massive in size:Counter strike 1.6 from fresh out of the box @ 116MbsStrike force 1.8 377mbsTactical Ops 220mbsNever mind   CheersDamo
Guest Shirley_Crabtree
Hi again.Right if I were you this is how I would go about getting CS to work.Completly uninstall Half-Life.(Make sure its all gone)Install Half-Life to its default directory.(C:\SIERRA)Download HL patch 1.1.1.0 from http://www.dnagames.net .(under files/half-life in left hand pane)Patch Half-life.Download CS 1.5 full install windows mod from the above site and install that.Bingo!!Should be ok.(I always use DNA BTW very stable and no queueing)Hope this helps...cheers

Guest spook
Crikey - snap!Albeit it was UT2003 but essentially same prob. Just reinstall Half Life. The theory being, as it did mine in practise, that it will re-install the game over any files corrupted like the uninstall file, then you can uninstall the game after installation. This will at least ensure it is cleared out of the windows directory, which is what you need to protect. Then restart Windows. Now with it booted back up, remove any orphaned crap left in the folders. Then reinstall.(Be sure to set restore points - if you can - before adding anything else to the game. Might save you some grief).
Guest Shirley_Crabtree
I would say if all else fails delete C:\SIERRA.Make sure to delete all traces of half-life from your registry.(I use JV16 power tools for this www.jv16.org)Then reinstall as above.Cheers(Edit) Or try what Spook said above
Guest spook
Hi Shirley - spoke to Mr Pilch last night. You are all Half Life fans then I take it?Haven't ever played it but I did pick up a copy of the game when it was being sold in those 4 game (add-on) packs. Has Counter Strike, if I'm thinking of right thing here, plus some others. I know it's a wrong to be so ignorant of this particular game, it's something of a classic, isn't it?Anyway, will get round to playing it, and like I said to Pilch, maybe I'll get round to joining you all for a game (perhaps at Pilch's sever). That would be nice.
Guest Mundy
BigDamo-Uk, sorry can I pinch your thread for a mo? thanks... :D Spook - Half-Life. O'h boy are you in for a treat, yes sir you are. Sounds like you have the Generation edition. If so what a bargain, all that game-play for £20. Here's a tip (now if we were in the old gamesroom I could post a click here link and save myself a load of typing, all that info... has pilch... got it all? o'h dear I'm rambling already, not had today's therapy yet you see!) so where were we... graphically half-life now looks dated, however included on the Blueshift add-on cd is a graphic enhancement pack patch . It really does improve things for ALL the game set, not just Blue Shift. PC Gamer gave Half-Life the Best Game of All Time in 2001. Enjoy. I have never played it on-line though, might get round to it one day.
Guest spook
Hey Mundy - thanx for the tip. I'd browsed the CD contents and yessir, you are right. I did notice that graphic enhancement thing. Glad I got it then, if it's that good. Hope it's better than the rather laborious The Thing!I will happily indulge your ramblings, Mundy. I enjoy a good read so that goes for anyone else also. Sorry you have had to put up with mine in the past - I have started using the edit response button for that reason.Mundy, a request. Please please please, see about getting BF1942 if you can. I suspect, you, me and Commander Pig, could make a very good start to becoming a working unit. Don't worry if you can't. I just don't want to see you or anyone else, miss out on the fun. It certainly has it's weak points, but they are very small compared to not having the game. Don't anyone get it though, if you simply cannot stand gross acts of adolescent stupidity and unbelievable selfishness. These can sometimes be the aim of the game itself, so be warned...I enjoy it though!
Guest ordep
Edit response button, not another one, theres more knobs & buttons than members here  Half Life, well what can you say, regarded by many as the best game ever. love 'em, played them all.Cant help thinking thou you may be a touch disappointed , as graphics have come on leaps and bounds since then. The opening scene was revelation in its day
Guest spook
Know what you mean Ordep - I had to spend an hour or so just searching through all the little buttons and experimenting - took me a long while to find how to upload a picture (just like hotmail and yahoo I find). Thanks for the description - loaded it up once and was a bit disappointed with the graphics I have to say. It was novel though, the emphasis on story line and people you don't actually shoot - but that side lasted a bit too long for my liking. All the video bit they call rendering or something someone said. Best to skip it in my opinion! On with the killing!
