She said it rightly recognises the strength of UK gun laws and warns against complacency.Ms Flint said that a number of tough new legislative measures are going through Parliament to deal with the problem of gun violence and culture. They include proposals for:A five-year minimum sentence for illegal possession of a firearm in the Criminal Justice Bill A new offence of carry imitation weapons in a public place without lawful authority or reasonable excuse A ban on the sale, import and manufacture of weapons that can be converted to operational firearms"In addition, we are carrying out a comprehensive review of firearms legislation and will use that to consider in detail the views expressed here, particularly in relation to replica, deactivated and air weapons," she said."Legislation and enforcement alone will not solve gun crime. Key to our work is building strong communities who will support our young people and divert them away from a life of crime."Nearly 44,000 guns and over a million rounds of ammunition were submitted in the national firearms amnesty in April this year.So is the blatant rise in shootings and gun crime just a figment of my imagination or is this just another load of b***sh*t that the government is trying to feed us? Guest nellie2 Posted November 6, 2003 Report Share Posted November 6, 2003 I hate guns.... just sitting at the airport last week and watching the policemen wandering around with their guns was bad enough.I was in the South of France a few years ago..... just sitting in the bar being cool, like you do... and a Gendarme came in with his gun in his holster and ordered a coffee and sat there having a chat ....... I must be totally niaeve or something because I couldn't get out of there fast enough.. If it were an automatic ten years inside for being in possession of a firearm it would be worth buying some shares in knife industry.
