It depends on the code number of the chip. AMD had a large quantity of the faster chips but no buyers. Buyers including PC suppliers as well as home users where crying out for 2500. AMD stuck a 2500 label on the faster chips and sold them at the lower price, so if you get the right one, you just run it at the increased clock cycle.
