All Seeing Eye

Dump Gamespy and get All Seeing Eye, thats what I say.

After last nights problems with Gamespy, I took Shirley's advice and installed ASE.

Installed first time (very small down load, took seconds).

Nice simple layout (suits the likes of me a treat)

Got on to BF42 demo strait away, no messing

Haven't explored all the features yet but, the one i really like is,

When you highlight a server, a list of currant players appeared at the bottom of the page, this is so use-full, means a quick look through and i should be able to find were the boys are playing.

Haven't been able to fathom out were to add my handle yet though.......

In case you've not figured this one out yet Sir Ordep:

To add your name for a game:

  • Click on file -> Setup Wizard

  • Click on 'next' until you get to the page displaying your installed games (three times, I think)

  • Click on the appropriate game and type your name in

Simple, no?

You can also go to Tools->Set name (Ctrl+N), and that'll set your name for the next game you play.

I use All Seeing Eye too, and it's far better than Gamespy was - especially the player search (F3), so you can find where people are online - as long as you know their handle.

Darn, I did post this yesterday, here we go again.

Damo - have you changed your name again? :D

ordep - downloaded ASE... what a lovely change. Find it kinder on the eyes as well. Dump GameSpy into the trash bin (can't wait) I will soon as I'm sure everything is ok... noticed that it only found a few servers running Spearhead yet GS shows loads, so until I've tweaked about abit I'll keep GS in reserve.

Did a search for players yesterday and I found you (I think, unless some cheeky sod is using your handle also :o ) were you playing C/S perchance? sorry if I sound like big brother. :D

Na, not me Mundy. Theres a lest five ordep's running about i've learned.

Just had a look in ASE re Spearhead

Clicked on Spearhead and a popup box appeared saying something about, as i was not registered it could not show all the servers, it was only showing 1 :o

and would i like to look at the advantages of joining, so i had a look.

Clicked back again and low and behold its now showing over a 100

And there's some one in there now, calling them self Mundy :P

I've half a mind to resort to some bad language,

but i'll contain myself, as it's Sunday.

I've uninstalled, completely, and reinstalled, together with the patch, 3 or 4 times now,

And still no joy.

I get as far as the browser, search/refresh servers, then it freezes Gamespy and ASE says "server is full or unresponsive".

Been round the forums, but cant find any one with the same prob.......

ordep - I hate these machines when they misbehave, its the price we have to pay for being gamers I suppose.

I haven't been using GameSpy or ASE to access the BF1942 demo servers. I have accessed them from within the demo itself. Once started, I click on the multi-player option followed by the internet option which then displays all the available servers.

Try it, let us know how you go on. Fingers crossed for you. :)

From the FAQ:

20. I don't see any servers in ASE or when it updates, it shows only a few servers when I know there's thousands.

A: This generally happens when you have your network settings set incorrectly. Try to auto-detect your network (Options > Network) and see if that fixes it. If it doesn't, lower your packets sent per second until it does work. Also, be sure to remove any modifiers you might have on (Filter > Clear Modifiers).

If it's not that it might be worth asking in their forum, can't say I ever had such a problem myself.... but I've got a registered copy....

Ghost - I tried the auto-detect your network settings but still didn't improve things :( so as instructed I've lowered the number of packets sent per second to 60 (think it was 190) and hey presto now showing 50 servers. :D Many thanks.

To early to say yet whether I'll register (not really got to grips with it, life is so hetic at the mo!). Love the interface compared to Gamespy... blimey how did I tolerate those adverts for so long...
