Guest The Ghost of Inept Pig
Activision release:id Software and Activision announced today they are canceling the retail release of Wolfenstein: Enemy Territory. Despite a strong effort from talented developers, the single player portion of the game did not progress as anticipated. Canceling the release was a difficult decision made in the best interest of the Wolfenstein franchise and fans. However, we remain excited about the progress and direction of Enemy Territory multiplayer. Over the next several months the focus of our development will be to complete the multiplayer portion of Enemy Territory and provide it as a free downloadable expansion to Return to Castle Wolfenstein. In Wolfenstein: Enemy Territory Axis and Allied teams do battle in traditional single scenarios, or wage war through a series of linked scenarios in a totally new campaign mode. During combat players gain experience and skill, and through battlefield promotions are awarded additional abilities that remain persistent across an entire campaign. Additionally, new character classes like the covert operative class as well as an enhanced engineer allow teams to perform reconnaissance, steal enemy uniforms, and construct battlefield structures and military installations in the midst of combat to gain tactical advantages for their team. All new game modes, maps and communication abilities require players and teams to develop advanced strategies and tactics in the struggle for front line domination. But surely, they could've stuck a couple of slap dash missions together and hired a well known person to be the 'voice', and charged people £20 for this? That's what EA did with Spearhead - I don't think anyone would refer to that as a great single player game...Must say that Multiplayer sounds mighty impressive though... Guest ordep
Well thats a hard blow for fans of CW.Apparently id software & Activision have had a team working on ET for over a year, so thats an expensive decision some one had to make.I give full credit to Activision for there decision. It was obviously made in the best interests of the Wolfenstein franchise and fans.As IP point's out, had it have been an EA project, i think they would have had no scruples in cobbling together and releasing a sub standard game. Guest maby66
gosh...I remember RTCW....its around here somewhere..underneath all my Spearhead related stuff....If it does come out it I would certainly be interested in it - if only to see what has been made of the old RTCW engine....hmmm...might even have to go and hae a little play later on.......PS - I think Spearhead is made with some addictive gameplay elements - I literally havent played anyhting else since playing it on line........no Star Trek Aramada 2 (unfinished) no Hostile Waters (unfinished) even original MOHAA I got to the final mission and just left it.......what did they put in it????
