Guest The Ghost of Inept Pig
Hurray! ROCKSTAR GAMES ANNOUNCES GRAND THEFT AUTO: VICE CITY FOR PC- The Best Selling Game Of 2002 Heads To The PC This Spring -New York, NY- February 14, 2003- Rockstar Games, a division of Take-Two Interactive Software, Inc. (NASDAQ: TTWO), proudly announced today that the PC version of the global blockbuster, Grand Theft Auto: Vice City, is set to hit retail shelves in North America on May 13th and in Europe on May 16th. The PC version will possess enhanced features including improved graphics and sound, additional PC controls, as well as several options for players to customize the game.Grand Theft Auto: Vice City, the sequel to last year's best-selling Grand Theft Auto 3, has once again received universal critical acclaim, a multitude of awards and financial success by becoming the fastest selling, highest grossing PlayStation®2 game released to date, outdoing its predecessor, Grand Theft Auto 3. Released for the PlayStation®2 computer entertainment system last October, Grand Theft Auto: Vice City had the distinct honor of becoming the undisputed number-one selling video game of 2002. The Grand Theft Auto franchise has now achieved the unimaginable feat of ruling the video game sales charts two years in a row."We felt that we had to truly outdo ourselves when it came to developing Grand Theft Auto: Vice City and felt that we owed it to the fans to continue to keep enhancing and delivering the gameplay, cinematic graphics, production values and audio experience that have become synonymous with the Grand Theft Auto franchise," said Sam Houser, president of Rockstar Games. "We are truly humbled by the response that the game has received so far and are extremely excited to showcase Grand Theft Auto: Vice City on the PC.""The real beauty behind Grand Theft Auto is not only the freedom that it allows the players, but also the freedom that it has given us as developers," added Leslie Benzies, president of Rockstar North. "The open ended, non-linear world of Grand Theft Auto allows us to stretch the limits of our imaginations by giving us an open canvas to work with. This was especially the case when it came to creating Grand Theft Auto: Vice City. The 80's fashion styles, music, and sensibility fueled our creativity to the fullest. We are extremely excited for the PC world to experience the fruits of our labor when the enhanced version of the game is released this spring."Since its release in October 2002 on the PlayStation 2, Grand Theft Auto: Vice City has continued to be a worldwide phenomenon and sales juggernaut gracing the top of sales charts everywhere it has been released. Grand Theft Auto: Vice City has taken the videogame industry to new heights with feature articles in Time, SPIN, Rolling Stone, MAD Magazine, Entertainment Weekly, The Associated Press and USA Today to countless cover stories in the world's top videogame publications and receiving more than 40 awards, including numerous "Game of the Year" commendations. Grand Theft Auto: Vice City has been unanimously praised for its technical innovation, groundbreaking design, stylish approach, and overall fun factor

Guest maby66
having played it on a borrowed PS2 I was at first slightly dissappointed - the hype led me to beleive an incredibly different gaming experience was about to take place - strip away the window dressing and what you basically have is a long series of relatively short missions. However, what I did appreicate over time was the thought and attention to detail that went in to the creation of the gameworld. The soundtrack has to be heard - multiple radio stations all playing their own themes with music of the time - so the hiphop station is playing early eighties hiphop, the pop station is playing eighties soft rock and the new wave station is playing flock of seagulls - I actually just drove around for a while listening to the music! The "go anywhere" physics are also very special - it will take you a while to work out the best routes to the various places, the map gives you enough clues but you can still get lost, and the traffic on the streets is just enough to get in the way.I could go on with the sub games (taxi rides, vigilante, hidden items were the ones that I found - I am sure there are more) but all in all a game that once you get into, you will find more and more to like.A quick word on graphics - PS2 graphics are blocky - I hope very much that the game engine is tweaked to take advantage fo the strengths of the PC otherwise I would be very dissappointed....... Paul
For a very good selection of GTA3 mods go here http://gta3headquarters.cjb.net/ which is 1 of the best GTA mod sites there is.To make your game run smother go here http://www.gta3hq.com/enhancement_mods.htm and download the High FPS mod and get rid of all them flying papers with Elvis on amongst other things. Also the Smoother Game-play Mod may help too.WARNING - Before installing any mods it is vitally important to backup the GTA 3 program folder so you wont have to reinstall when things go wrong and believe me they do !!!!Ps - the above sites can sometimes throw up a Gator install prompt, for god sake click cancel ;)

Guest The Ghost of Inept Pig
There's a news item at Computer & Video Games that speaks of the devlopment of.. GTA 4!A core team of five key Rockstar North staff is hard at work designing the true sequel to Grand Theft Auto 3, we can exclusively reveal. While all attention is focused on the Vice City follow-up confirmed by Take-Two for release in the next 18 months, a small team is working through concepts for a totally reworked GTA game for the next-generation of hardware.A highly placed inside source operating under conditions of anonymity told us: "GTA 4 is being designed now by a team of five." The source also confirmed that the next GTA game on console - widely believed to be based in San Andreas - will be the last iteration in the present format. "Expect more of the same as Vice City for that, but GTA 4 will be completely different."The designers have basically looked at what they want to do and realised they cannot do it with current technology, so they're building it from scratch." As a result "San Andreas" will mark the last use of the GTA3 engine. Unsurprisingly, it's believed Rockstar North is looking to the next-generation of hardware to realise its vision, with PS3 hotly-tipped by those in the know.Don't expect to hear anything official on GTA 4 anytime soon, but the PR machine should start rolling on the Vice City follow-up soon. Meanwhile PC owners will be able to snap up GTA: Vice City for their system on May 16.
