Guest Drovers Dog Posted April 19, 2004 Report Share Posted April 19, 2004 :P Hope I Posted this in the right place!I have just spent months getting this Computer to work properly under Dual Boot Win98SE and XP Home, had heaps of problems, so I am trying to pass on the problems and their fixes to all!The reason for Dual Boot? My Kids have Heaps of Games from the Win95-98SE days that XP doesn't recognise, even under compatibility Mode!The end Result? Games can be installed under Win98SE and actually be played under XP, by using Windows Explorer! My Kids worked that one out!First attempt, I got Win98SE working perfectly, then when I installed XP Home I had heaps of problems, that led to a Replacement Mobo! At the time I found a Problem with the Ribbon for the CDROM, replaced it, but diddn't take too much notice!Next attempt, I had problems with installing Win98SE, it would not recognise the CDROM. When I wriggled the Ribbon, it fell apart!When I checked out the Mobo, the IDE Connectors on the Abit are at the Bottom, unlike most Mobos I have used, more to the Middle!!I ordered a new set of Ribbons, checked them out, and one of them is 40mm, Inch and a half shorter!! Normally motherboard makers chuck in a few ribbon cables with the board.I did have a bit of a problem initially when installing Linux on my RAID 0 array but now i've just chucked it on a 5 year old Seagate P-ATA 8.4GB hdd and just change the boot sequence in the BIOS when I want to boot into Linux or Windows.
