'King Road' sums it up

The most important thing about racing games is of course the car physics. How does the car react to you steering commands? Well, I was VERY disappointed about thisĀ  The steering and road holding of the cars is way to arcade. You can't place the car on the track where you want it to be. The cars can take corners way too fast, faster than F1 cars... Most of the time you don't have to brake before corners and if you have to, you'll notice the brakes are way too powerful. I also tried the "sim mode", but this wasn't very different from normal... If Codemasters doesn't fix this in the final game, and I don't think they will, I won't buy this game. It's just no fun. I have to admit I am a fan of realistic racing games (GTR 2002 Mod for F1 2002, Live for Speed), but sometimes I can enjoy arcade games too, like Need for Speed Porsche Challenge or Toca Touring Car Championship (also by codemasters). The Toca Race Driver demo however just doesn't feel right. It's also way too unrealistic and too easy.

The AI was no challenge for me, I finished first very easily. They also behave very strange. Like braking when it's not needed.

One final comment, I didn't recognize I was driving on Monza at first. The track somehow doesn't feel right... When I finished I saw I had driven on Monza. And only when I drove it again I could recognize it

Summarizing this new demo is very disappointing in my opinion. I just can't imagine why this game has been in developement for such a long time. Especially the car physics seem so basic and not polished. At the moment it looks like I won't buy the game when it's out. I'd rather buy Live For Speed for example, much more fun to drive...

Well, he does a better job than me.... :D

Find it a bit flat. Doesn't feel right, though the in car and bonnet cam modes are promising - the rear camera view certainly is not. A lack of atmosphere... too arcadey but ultimately unsure of itself. Another game that won't fit a niche?

A bit flat you say? Why, yes it is. How so? Well, it just seems a little non-engaging, despite there seeming some great advancements made to the game engine, itself. Well, it's just my initial feeling.

The game will feature network options, so online multiplaying is one of the strongest attractions for the PC title, as it is for Playstation 2 and Xbox versions... that sounds like a lot of fun!

They say a new demo release version with an extra track is due fairly shortly. The developers are listening (unlike certain others I could mention), and will be working hard to optimise this month old 'demo' as well as finish the game itself. 20% outstanding they say, tweaks and all, and March release date seeming very unlikely. This first demo version (linked) also available on some current games mags (PC Format I think is one of them).

All in all, it seems to be a disappointment to many. I personally feel there's great potential but agree that the car behaves very strangely for a car! One guy even described it as driving a Jelly.
