  1. using Win 7 32 bit with Word 2010 I am not sure when my files became read only. I have tried to change but changes don't hold. I think it was in the last couple of days. Iknow this is an old problem but I haven’t seen a solution that does not require a high skill level. I do not want to interfere with my registry keys. I haven'tseen a fix that doesn’t involve this. I haven’t had a virus so not sure how this happened. I did a virus scan to make sure. Steps to resolve this problem so far. Read all posts via Google - nothing helpful to Win 7 except a registry key solution. I have only changed my setting to "show hidden files and folders" I did a systems restore yesterday but may but may not have gone back far enough to the last restore point. The only files I have changed today and yesterday relate to creating shortcuts on ribbon. I can’t see anything going wrong there. Are there any other actions I can try and are the software tools that fix registry keys that have been recommended as a solution safe touse? If so which one is best please? Any assistance will be appreciated - but no " jargonise”please or I will have to come back for clarification. Can u please keep it simple and relevant to Win 7? I have an assignment due next week and need my files so will pay for software if it is safe and works rather than muck around myself. Saving them with a new file name will not work for me and not an option. Most are part of a thesis. Thanks a lot
