I have a weird problem with RDP (mstsc.exe) and hope somebody can help!! Here is my setup: Windows Server box running instances of both server and client virtual machine instances. Windows 8 box used as a development machine All VMs on the server running either Win Server 2012 or Server 2012 and Windows 7 & 8 My development machine (Windows 8) is running anti-virus software (both BitDefender and AVG free editions). All Server instances are running System Center Endpoint Protection client as the anti-virus engine. The entire setup above is part of a private Active Directory domain as a separate domain controller box running Server 2012. I am the administrator of the entire domain and on all machines both physical and virtual. Now for the problem: Some times, not always, when I RDP into any machine from any other machine within my domain (or when I RDP into any of my domain machines from outside), as soon as the target machine's desktop comes into view, the target system starts opening an unlimited number of Windows Explorer windows. Since this process takes up the entire processor and memory resources, I can't do anything within that window - not even initiating a shutdown - other than physically turning off the offending box or the VM manually. This problem has been around for a while when I was running Server 2012 and Windows 8 systems. For a while I thought this could be caused by some Virus, though the chances my machines are infected are very unlikely. But you never know. So, I finally could not take it any more and decided to rebuild the entire group of machines, both physical and virtual from scratch. I reformatted the OS harddisk on every physical box, reinstalled - this time Server 2012 R2 - for all server requirements and Windows 8.1 for my development desktop box. After the OS was installed, the only other software currently installed on these machines is anti-virus. But unfortunately I still have the same old problem when I try to RDP into other machines. So, basically, all that time (days, mind you) I spent rebuilding all my machines, thinking this could be a virus, was an absolute waste. Can somebody shed some light on this? Babu.
