trevdawg0
hi i have wireless broadband and for some reason as of the past 2 days my internet has not been working. it will work for up to 10 minutes after disabling/re-enabling the connection or when right clicking on the lan icon(blinking lights) and click repair. when its not working it will not do anything wont ping anything wont load any webpages no service at all. not sure if its the isp's fault or not the two service icons on the hardware modem are lit up like they are supposed to be. any suggestions anyone? Agent Smith
Hi trevdawg0, and welcome to the Forum. I think you need to be a bit more specific about your kit here. When you say you have "wireless broadband", can I assume that you have a phone line (or possibly cable connection) to a modem in your house, at which point the modem is either connected to a wireless transciever, or has one built in?If so, does the modem have any other method of connecting to it (usb or ethernet)? All you can really do, is to troubleshoot the various parts of your connection. The first place to start, is at the POP (point of presence), where the broadband connection comes into your house. You are going to need to ensure that you can get a stable connection to the Internet from this point without using your wireless link. If you can, then the problem is almost certainly going to be with the wireless connection, but if you can't, then you will need to call your ISP as the problem would appear to be external.Have you checked with your ISP first, just to make sure they have no known problems in your location? If you are still having problems, then please supply me with more information regarding your connection and I will try to help further.Mr. Mouse. trevdawg0
the part that gets me is whenever you click repair under the status of the connection it will work for an undertermined amount of time usually around 5-10 minutes then it will cut out again. but it will work almost everytime you click repair
Agent Smith
OK, so which point is wireless?Do you have another computer with a wireless connection?Mr. M.

I am not sure about the US, but here in the UK it is sometimes required to have a noise check done on the connection, and subject to the result of that, the "gain" on the broadband connection can be increased to improve the connection. From what you are telling me, this is starting to sound like an ISP related issue.Mr. M. Agent Smith
I should also add, that as your modem connects to your pc via ethernet, it will have an IP address. You will need to find out what that address is (it will probably change on a regular basis) and then you should be able to check if you can ping that address. If you can ping it, but your internet is not working, then it would tell me that the problem is almost certainly beyond the modem, ie not your equipment, but the ISP's.Mr. M. trevdawg0
ok its like this. i have an ethernet cable running to the modem from my PC. From my modem i have a cable(like tv type) running outside to the antenna thingy which then signals to a radio tower some 10 miles awaymy ISP's site: www.datatruck.com
Agent Smith
Ah Ok.We, I do not believe, have anything like that in the UK at the moment (pretty backward when it comes to decent internet connections, basically if you live more than a few miles from a telephone exchange, you don't get broadband :( ). You can ignore my comment about having the line checked, as this will not be relevant in your case.I really would have to say that this appears to be a problem with your external connection (or possibly an issue with your modem), as it is very unlikely that an ethernet based connection will turn itself on and off as you describe.I would suggest that you contact your supplier and seek their opinion, but if they deny all responsibility, let me know exactly what they say and I will give you my opinion on what to tell them.Regards.
