~sigh~

just when i thought i was getting somewhere..

i managed to get the sound card, video card, easy stary buttons, and modem (which doesnt work anyway  its recognised but its never ever ever been able to find a dialing tone!) driver files all updated from the CD. and the ESB error message stopped appearing, Stand-By mode became available again, we had sound again, and the game stopped crashing and returning to windows at the start. but there was one small glitch - the cursor was flashing rapidly and consistantly while the game was running..

i may have installed incorrect driver files (as the CD has many versions, and the video card is what i started with, and only realised which set of files when i came to the EasyStartButton driver files..) so i attempted to reinstall the drivers for the graphics/video card and it did this no problem with an automated setup program... but on restarting - after the "loading windows xp" screen.... nothing.... windows dont load - just a black screen :(

i started windows in safe mode, which worked, and attempted to Roll Back the driver.. but on restarting - its the same :(

what do i do?

EDIT

starting windows with "last known good configuration" at the DOS startup screen got windows to load - how do i set this as default now
