Pc freezes at random

AMD athlonXP 2800 pc freezes several times a day. Sometimes when working on it (just some office and internet applications), sometimes even when nobody is working at it. Nothing can be done than shutting of the power and restarting it. (no mouse working, no keyboard, .... ).

I cleaned it up with adaware, and spybot. Did a virus scan with Avast, and some online virusscanners. No viruses found.

Then I thought that maybe the memory was broken, so I run memtest86. The pc frozes after 5 miunutes when doing the memtest. No errors detected.

(Side question: when running memtest(starting from a floppy), windows isn't loaded yet, I suppose?).

I need some advice on this.

Have you checked temperatures of CPU, motherboard etc?

Are all the required fans operating OK?

Ensure all plugs, cards (PCI, graphics and memory blocks), power cables etc. are fully pushed home.

Have you checked for Trojans?

a² would be what I would use.

Regarding running with the case open - not recommended. As the airflow would be incorrect for the case with its side removed, there is a possibility of the components running hotter than they would with the sides in place and the airflow correct.

Best to keep a running check on temperatures with the case intact if you can then see if there are any untoward increases at any time.

What are your running temperatures now? This may give an idea if they are working near the safe limits.

well same sort of thing used to happen to me when i played on Westwood (command and conquer lobby) , and it was a problem with my network card. It started doing it when i never had it installed , just certain things caused it to freeze shareaza made my pc freeze aswell along with other things

Still no luck with this one. I installed speedfan (did'nt find the mobo monitor).

Speedfan gives these temps with closed case:

cputemp: 42°C

case temp: 26°C

I runned spybot, adaware and a². Nothing bad detected (some cookies by adaware).

Gonna run a HJT and post this in the HJT section. Will add a link to it later.

Could it be bad memory???

Edit: link to HJT log: http://www.windowsforum.org/forum/index.ph...=0entry113242
