Scarthy © ® ™
Hmmmmmm...Just seen on Neowin Homepage that Micro$oft have removed the link for DirectX 9.0a... <_>It appears as though Microsoft has removed their recent release of DirectX 9.0a from their webserver. If you try to access Microsoft's DirectX 9.0a Download Page, you'll simply recieve the following error message:The download you requested is unavailable. If you continue to see this message when trying to access this download, you might try the "Search for a Download" area on the Download Center home page. Also, any references to the recent release in Microsoft's Download Center has been removed. It is not clear at the moment why Mircosoft has decided to erase all evidence of 9.0a's existance.
Guest ellas
back up,heres why it was downWarp2search have learned from a Microsoft representative, who works as a premier support member at Microsoft Germany, that DirectX 9.0a was removed because of an incompatibility with ATI Catalyst 03.1 drivers. Catalyst drivers 03.2 were unaffected, Wenzel said. He pointed out that there were still some minor bugs bud did not want to comment any further. If and when DirectX 9.0a will be available remains unclear at the moment. Catalyst 03.1 drivers are still pretty popular because they perform better and allow Counter-Strike fans to play the game. Catalyst 03.2 introduced a show stopper bug with Counter-Strike.
Scarthy © ® ™
Nice 1 ellas... ;)Info from Rage 3d.com.DirectX 9.0a & Catalyst 3.1 - 7:37 pm EST - MrB Warp2Search has reported that DirectX 9.0a was pulled off Microsoft's site due to incompatibility with ATI's Catalyst 3.1 drivers. Here's their post:We have learned from a Microsoft representative, who works as a premier support member at Microsoft Germany, that DirectX 9.0a was removed because of an incompatibility with ATI Catalyst 03.1 drivers. Catalyst drivers 03.2 were unaffected, Wenzel said. He pointed out that there were still some minor bugs bud did not want to comment any further. Catalyst 03.1 drivers are still pretty popular because they perform better and allow Counter-Strike fans to play the game. Catalyst 03.2 introduced a show stopper bug with Counter-Strike. Update: Microsoft has re-enabled the download: here. The release date now is 3/26/2003. A quick comparison using DXDIAG did not reveal any changes. I contacted Terry Makedon, ATI's software product manager to see if this was true. He has said the following:The story on Warp2Search is not true. Microsoft has not contacted me about any incompatibility with DirectX 9.0a and CATALYST 3.1. I also find it interesting that the news story also claims that CATALYST 3.1 perform better than CATALYST 3.2 (another inaccuracy). It is a false story, do not believe it. I will be contacting the author of the story for more information. As ATI has to continually fight their poor driver reputation, I felt it was important to dispel this notion that 9.0a was pulled due to one of ATI's drivers. Warp2Search's update adds more proof that nothing was changed as DXDIAG did not reveal any changes. ;)
