johanesw Posted October 27, 2004 Report Share Posted October 27, 2004 Hi guys, I was running WinXP Pro before, but I had some problem with the login interface and the BsOD, so I reinstalled windows with Win2k3....But....I had some important files that were security-protected from WinXP, so I cannot access my files (although i'm logged in as admin)....when I tried to change the security settings of those files, it displayed:"You do not have permission to view or edit the current permission settings for something.something, but you can take ownership or change auditing settings"Whenever I try to open those file, it says that access is denied....Does any of you know how to cope with problems so that I can get my files back? johanesw Posted October 29, 2004 Author Report Share Posted October 29, 2004 hmm, what i did to solve this problem was to take ownership of the folder that had my important files:right click the folder -> properties -> security -> advanced -> owner then I highlight my username and check the "Replace Owner on subcontainers and objects".
