Now, I have just installed a slave hard drive and formated it with FAT32. I tried to install windows 98, but can't seem to be able to direct it to that hard drive. Is this at all possible? Or is it only possible to install win 98 on the C: drive? Or is there any special sofware, or anything that I could use to install on the other drive? Thanks. -pops- Posted November 6, 2004 Report Share Posted November 6, 2004 It is very difficult to install another O/S on a system that already has XP installed. Microsoft used to say it was impossible.The first problem arises from XP, presumably, being in NTFS which prevents FAT32 systems being installed.Thsere are methods of doing what you want but it is not easy and, in my opinion, not worth the trouble.If you are prepared to do a complete new installation, re-format the hard drives then install W98 and XP after that. This will force XP to be loaded in FAT32.I do have to ask, though, do your truly need W98 as well as XP on your machine? I was a beta tester for XP and, as soon as I got even the trial versions loaded, I preferred it to all previous versions of Windows and have used XP ever since - the older ones have never had a look in. Yea for regular use there's no reason to touch 98 after having xp. I'm starting to think the only way would be reinstalling everything starting from win98, which wouldn't be worth is very much. Could I possibly install win98 on the what is now the FAT32 slave drive, then switching the other NTFS drive to a slave and direct it to be a second OS without having to reinstall it? -pops- Posted November 6, 2004 Report Share Posted November 6, 2004 What I did for a client once was to fit up a removable caddy for the hard drive so that one hard disk had WXP and this was swappable (is that a word?) with another disk loaded with W98 - well, it was ME actually but you see my point.Caddies for doing this a low cost and will fit into a spare five and a quarter inch bay.
