Tiger__Style Posted November 9, 2004 Report Share Posted November 9, 2004 Lately I've had several different blue screens in XP, usually while surfing the net; and sometimes while playing games like Far Cry. I've only been able to record 3 of the blue screens: Driver_irql_not less or equal, bad_pool_caller & PFN_List_Corrupt. I thought it might have something to do with conflicting irq's, so i cheched all my devices & found some that share irq's: IRQ 22: nvidia nforce mcp audio processing unit & standard openHCD usb controller. Irq 20: Nvidia nforce audio codec interface & standard enhanced pci to usb host controller. Irq 21: Nvidia nforce networking controller, OHCI compliant IEEE 1394 host controller & standard OpenHCD usb host controller. I also remember the driver_irql_not less_or_equal screen mentioning something about ntfs.sys. In my device manager though, it doesn't say anything about the irq's conflicting. -pops- Posted November 9, 2004 Report Share Posted November 9, 2004 Try moving any PCI cards around to different slots. I have found that this helps, especially if you have a Creative sound card installed - move this as far away from anything else as you can - in particular the graphics card.Another thing could be attached USB devices. Kirk Posted November 14, 2004 Report Share Posted November 14, 2004 yea, i too have been getting blue screen crashes. my last one was jus a few hours ago. and that one gave me the irql is equal to or less than error. and the other one i have got before is a stop error listed at top with the ntfs.sys error line at bottom of page. and i too have found at least 2 things sharing the same irq. in device man. i found my sound, which is onboard, is irq 17 and my modem which is a pci modem 56k is also showing irq 17. think this might be the problem? Kirk Posted November 14, 2004 Report Share Posted November 14, 2004 well the sound is onboard. dont have a card for it. it uses the intel sound cadenza prg. says soundman on there. and the only pci thing in there now is the modem. so if it does it again you think i should move the pci modem card to another slot then? Kirk Posted November 14, 2004 Report Share Posted November 14, 2004 ok its soundmax intergrated sound device. and i beleive the modem card is stuck in the furthest down from the agp video card. both the sound and modem card resources show no conflicts in the resources screen. so should i, like move it up one slot or what? Kirk Posted November 15, 2004 Report Share Posted November 15, 2004 ok, i went into the sys veiwer as suggusted by another person to look for any red x's. i found some in the apps. a fault bucket with a ypager listing below that and on 11-13 it shows ie explorere.exe crash. now on the sys it shows several of the pro network adaptor warnings. and 2 error code errors for the kernalcrashlog. and as far as the usb thing. it has always been ok before. one suggestion to me was reseat the vid card for the irql error and mem sticks. and the stop error thing was to look for the red x's to see what might be causing it. i was told the chkdisk and scannow things i already did wouldnt do any good if it was a sys thing. so do you think i may be looking at doing the cd boot windows repair? or fresh reinstall instead? also i keep getting it asking me still to activate and when i tell it yes it is already done. the tech guy did it for me. would that be any part of the probs? -pops- Posted November 15, 2004 Report Share Posted November 15, 2004 If you are getting activation warnings it may well be advisable to do a re-install as, if the current installation does not contain the correct activation codes it will stop working correctly after a time. Kirk Posted November 15, 2004 Report Share Posted November 15, 2004 including yourself pops, i now have 3 people reccomending the reformat reinstall cuz of this activation error situation. should solve all the other probs as well. sent a reply to symantec sinc ethe last time i did this i had to call them to activate nis2004. i had apparently ran out of my limit. didnt know there was one, but they set me up . jus wanna see if i have to do that again or if im good to go with another run. if i dont hear from them by tuesday i'll jus have to go with it and see if i have to callem up again or not. i kinda see the point theyre makin though about jus doing the fresh install first. it wont do anygood to fix the other stuff if windows activation code is corrupted and it locks up after i fix the other stuff, now would it? gotta break out another cd and start backing up some stuff. most i already have from the previous times. before i do the reinstall ill repost here in this thread to let you know, since itll take me a bit to get everything all done again, updates and all. last time it took me 6 to 8 hours to get it completely done. dialup sucks ya know. but all i can afford.
