ɹəuəllıʍ ʇɐb
I have used PowerQuest software for many years -- PartitionMagic, BootMagic, DiskImage, DataKeeper, and I never had any troubles with it. But now all of a sudden DataKeeper (5.0) does not work correctly any more, and I don't know where to get Help or Support. Any ideas?Anyway, in case someone here has intimate knowledge of DataKeeper, this is my problem:I have a rather large Outlook PST file (600MB+) where I keep all my archived messages from the last 10 years. I want it to be backed up at every update, keeping 5 backups (for all files). A few days ago I noticed that DataKeeper is trying to back up the PST file every minute or so, but creating only a backup file of some 100 bytes each time. When I close Outlook, DataKeeper creates a real backup. But a few minutes later it is wiped away by these 100 bytes files. Any suggestions?Windows XP Pro SP2Outlook 2003DataKeeper 5.0 (build 154)P.S. The Backup drive has 6GB of free space. -pops-
I stopped using PowerQuest software since it was taken over by Symantec but, even before that takeover and I was using their DriveImage backup software, I understand that Datakeeper was discontinued because of incompatibilities with the modern Windows operating systems.Their claim was that the software was not popular enough to justify continuing with development for it when the same end results could be obtained from DriveImage.I think you must be very lucky if you have had Datakeeper working successfully with XP. ɹəuəllıʍ ʇɐb
Maybe that product has reached its life-end with XP-SP2.Can someone recommend a similar product -- kind of automated backup facility?
ɹəuəllıʍ ʇɐb
I think I may have found the solution: run DataKeeper in Windows 2000 mode (setting the DataKeeper shortcut in the Startup folder to Win2K compatibility).I think this technique may help a number of older applications to still function under XP. ɹəuəllıʍ ʇɐb
I finally found the real solution for the problem (above was not it) - in case someone else ever has the same problem with DataKeeper. If I wait with restarting Outlook until DataKeeper has completed backing up the PST and OST files, then I have a valid backup. If I start Outlook while DataKeeper is still backing up, then the backup won't complete.Makes sense, but it took me over a month to realize that...
