trackrat Posted December 8, 2004 Report Share Posted December 8, 2004 A friend at work has a Sony Viao laptop with XP on it.He has asked me how he can connect it wirelessly to his Blueyonder broadband cable modem.He has told me that their is a switch on the side of the laptop for wireless connection ( bluetooth possibly ).Can anyone tell me what he needs to buy to connect wirelessly. homecomputeraid Posted December 8, 2004 Report Share Posted December 8, 2004 Trackrat,First, he'll want to see what exactly the Sony Vaio has for a Wireless adapter. I don't think a Bluetooth adapter can connect to an Ethernet Network without some hardware to allow it. (I'm not too knowledgable on Bluetooth though). If it's an Ethernet Wireless NIC, he should see whether it's 802.11b or 802.11g. That will determine which Wireless Router/Firewall he'll get.Next, I'm pretty sure the Blueyonder Cable Modem isn't capable of doing Wireless itself.
