setting up internet connection....

hi

i've decided to install a internet connection on a pc i have re-installed windows on after formatting. But when i go to setup the connection it wont let me select the option that lets u set up the connection using the modem, its all greyed out (i have installed the modem with no problems and is working fine).

does anyone know the problem here??

Hello Heliocentric,

Did you ever have an Internet Connection, and an account with an Internet Service Provider? If so, what Internet Service Provider do you use?

They usually have some software and some configuration information to help you set it up.

i use ntl

i've set up connections lots of times using 'network connections' before on my latop and on the computer before i reformatted...but the option to select a modem to connect with has never been greyed out...and i know i have installed the modem correctly

help lol

Do you know how to test that the modem's installed correctly? What Operating System? I'd like to help you run a diagnostic test on the Modem, but I have to know the OS to tell you where to find it.

Are you sure your dialup modem is properly functioning? Without an operating system, we can't really help you. But, I can tell you this. Open Device manager

1) Right-click "My Computer"

2) Select Properties

If running windows 2000/XP

- Go to the hardware tab

- click the button labeled device manager

If running win9x/me

- click the device manager tab

seek out your Dialup modem and double-click it

make sure under "Device Status" it reads "This device is working properly"

its xp proffesional

i very sure the modem is installed correctly, it says the device is working properly and i can run a 'query' test and it connects to the modem and gives me info....

i just done understand why the modem option is greyed out...i think its a software problem rather than a hardware one, althought i could be wrong

onbard or in a pci slot? if the latter, try switching the pci slot it's in

its an external modem...and it installs fine...

its ok i solved the problem....looked on the microsoft and there was a problem with the xp edition i had. i had to edit in the registry
