Guest Damo Posted April 3, 2003 Report Share Posted April 3, 2003 HI, I was wondering if anyone can clarify the legal position with Emulators and Roms.Am i correct in thinking the downloading of ROMS is a copyright breach or, as a few other websites say, are they legal providing you already own the particular game?Also as Emulators are freeware and not made by games companies but rather individuals do these contain any elements of copyright theft?RegardsDamo Quote Link to comment Share on other sites More sharing options...
Paul Posted April 4, 2003 Report Share Posted April 4, 2003 Heres how I see it.......Emulators need the emulated system ROM to play the game ROM`s if you know what I mean, for instance - if you want to emulade an Amiga you need an Amiga Emulator and a Kickstart ROM which is a similar component to a PC BIOS, then you need the game you want to play.Emulators are generaly free wear and you can use it to your hearts content, system ROM`s such as the Amiga Kickstart ROM are copyrighted and you have to buy them unless you look very hard you might be able to find a free 1.Game ROM`s are somtimes freeware and sometimes copyrighted.Can anyone else confirm/deny the above?Ps - No links to illegal roms please ;) Quote Link to comment Share on other sites More sharing options...
