Evenflow
Hi guys, newbie here. I was passed on the address of this place as a good Community to come and get help with problems. I have a pretty bizarre one that I can't quite solve.I run my own site, which is on a shared server (i.e. I pay someone else to host my site, rather than incur all the costs myself). This arrangement has worked well. However, one of the site members has recently reported problem with gaining access to the site and the site messageboards/forums. When he get's onto the site forums, he has a few navigational moves around the site before getting the following error message:ERRORThe requested URL could not be retrievedWhile trying to retrieve the URL: http://www.bla-bla-bla.com/The following error was encountered:* Connection Failed The system returned:(111) Connection refusedThe remote host or network may be down. Please try the request again.Your cache administrator is rootThe person having the problem reports that he has no problems with any other site, with the exception of my site and the sites on the shared server!Any help resolving this would be greatly appreciatedThanks'Flow
homecomputeraid
Do you have access to server log files for your site? You can try a free service that will report outages like the following:http://www.siteuptime.com/to track when your server's unavailable. It sounds like you suspect the problem is only with this one visitor? If that's the case, does he get the error at other sites too, or just yours?I think we'll need more info about the user's PC. What OS, what browser, does he use any antivirus and antispyware software?
Evenflow
It sounds like you suspect the problem is only with this one visitor? If that's the case, does he get the error at other sites too, or just yours? From the 500 or so site members, none (with the exception of the aforementioned case) have reported any problems at all. The only problem he has had with regards to accessing sites is the three sites that are on the shared server? He uses Blueyonder (UK) and Internet Explorer Version 6.0. Only reported Anti-Virus is Norton and Spyware is just the usual Spybot and Ad-Adware etcThanks for the quick reply mate!'Flow
nellie2
Is he able to ping the site? It could be a problem with the route that his ISP takes to get to your site. Do you have any other Blueyonder users there?
Evenflow
Yea, there are a large number of Blueyonder users on the site my friend (Including myself). I can get the exact information from the Admin Control Panel but I recon it's probably around 35/40% of the site users subscribe to the particular ISP. I am not sure if he is able to Ping the site?I have urged him to actually get in contact with Blueyonder himself, but thought I would check with you guys to see if there was a fast track or easy way to fix the problem!'Flow
