syntax01010
I'm curious if anyone know of any good websites that have collections of remakes/clones/etc of classic arcade games? I'm looking to get a few CD's of games put together for myself and friends who are all into classic arcade gaming. I'm not looking for illegal copies of the actual games, unless the creator of them has publicly released them as freeware. However, any remakes or clones work. My main goal is finding downloadable full version games, that don't require being on the internet to play. Full version meaning they don't nag you to spend money to buy the ability to use the full game. Either freeware or open source will work. If you know of any good sites with decent to large collections of such games, please post up links to them.To give an idea of what i'm looking for game-wise, here is a list of games that fit the type and style of what i'm trying to collect.Pac-ManMs. Pac-ManSpace-InvadersDonkey-KongCentipedeDonkey-Kong Jr.MillipedeDefenderJoustDig DugPopeyeMario Bros.GalagaGalaxianZaxxonTronTokiBurgertimePitfallGhouls and GhostsOutrunHard Drivin'Race Drivin'Area 51Adventure(the oldschool Atari RPG)River RaidMissle CommandAsteroidsStar Wars/Empire Strikes Back(the vintage ray traced polygon games)Double DragonTeenage Mutant Ninja TurtlesSimpsonsKung FuFroggerRoad RashBad dudesBasicly any games that are much like the ones that I mentioned, or of a similar type or style to any of them would be something i'd be quite interested in being able to check out. Again, i'm not looking for pirated ROMS or illegal hacks of the originals. If the creator has stated they are free to the public, that is fine, but otherwise, only remakes or clones please. Also, please no games that require you to be on the internet to play them, or that require a paid membership to any site or group to be able to download the full versions of them. I'd like to try to avoid demos as well, seeing as how most demo games contain 1 or 2 levels and limited functionality.
