yogivishnu
I was trying to unload Spybot 1.4 beta2 from a site recommended by one of the Windows forum and was unable to connect. On being told that the site is functional and working , I tried repeatedly but failed .However I note that this is a unload from an ftp server and this problem is coming only with ftp servers. To give some background I am on Windows ME using Opera7.54. I also have Kerio 2.5.4 , McAfee 8.0 alongwith Proxomitron ( PATCHED),DNSKong, edexter running. On detecting problem with ftp servers,I enabled Opera ( >preferences>network >proxy servers) to work with FTP Servers through "localhost" at Port "8080"[HTTP & HTTPS being already so enabled] as also enabled ftp as one of the protocols to be handled by opera [ thru pref>default application ][HTTP & HTTPS being already so enabled].No results.I tried disabling all the above options as also closing down Kerio but to no avail.Could anyone make any suggestion. Thanks in advance. :( :(
andsome
I hope that you eventually get this sorted. It would have been better had you posted to the original thread rather than start a new one, it is better for continuity. If you send me an e-mail from the forum, I will send you a return e-mail with the file as an attachment. If you save the attachment to a folder, then double click on it you should be able to install it. I am closing down now, but will answer your e-mail tomorrow morning, UK time. ɹəuəllıʍ ʇɐb
I hope that you eventually get this sorted. It would have been better had you posted to the original thread rather than start a new one, it is better for continuity...Well, it's a separate issue actually. The other thread was a problem with SpyBot Search & Destroy; this one is about problems accessing FTP servers by the default browser.... However I note that this is a unload from an ftp server and this problem is coming only with ftp servers.Let's see -- what is actually happening? Your browser just hangs? Or times out? Or an error message? Is it the same if you access the site directly, or if you go through the Proxomitron (localhost:8080)? Usually you don't need a proxy server for FTP access.Next question: can you access the FTP site (or any other FTP site, e.g. ftp://ftp.microsoft.com/) using Internet Explorer?Final question: can you access any FTP site using the Windows FTP client? (Start -> Run -> type "ftp ftp.microsoft.com" -> User: "anonymous; Password: [email address] -> dir -> quit). Do you get a list from the 'dir' command?I do not ask these questions to help you find an alternate way to download from FTP sites, but to find the cause of your FTP access problems with your default browser. yogivishnu
Hi Pwillener : 1. Browser doesn't hang but if I persist I receive a msg saying that Proxomitron is unable to access the site. This , ofcourse , is when connection is thru the prox.2. Both my IE and Opera are configured to work thru localhost at 127.0.0.13. i could access the ftp server with prox but without kerio . as soon as kerio is enabled , i am not able to get at the server.4. prima facie it appears that one of kerio rules is blocking the ftp servers.i have bzkerio's advanced rule set in place.5. i think farther investigation is reqd before a full report can be given.Any ideas at this stage pal.
ɹəuəllıʍ ʇɐb
Thanks for the detailed answers. It seems all to come down on "kerio", but I have no idea what that is. So I cannot give you any help here.
