Billw Posted February 12, 2005 Report Share Posted February 12, 2005 Hi, I have a Win XP system that has a Belkin wireless G54 router hooked up to it. After many tries with different wireless PCI NIC's not working on the Win98se system, I traded up for the Netgear wg111 USB NIC. It installs fine and when I run the utility program it detects the Belkin54g network. I have 100% signal and all dots filled. When I try to launch Netscape or IE I get no internet at all.I unhooked the USB and reinstalled software twice now. I unhooked the USB card and hard wired the 98 system to the Belkin router through a 10/100 card amd it found the internet no problem.I then install the USB card on my XP system and it works perfect. I then switched everything back to the 98SE system and guess what ? No internet at all again. Netgear cannot help me anymore. They are telling me it is my system and they cant help. They must match on the PC (there should be a wireless configuration utility), and on the Router. Please post if you need help finding it. Even though you have great Signal Strength, it won't connect (obtain an IP Address) unless the SSID, and Encryption/WEP settings match exactly. I suggest setting it up without Encryption/WEP at first to make sure you can connect, then setting the Encryption Level/WEP. Quote Link to comment Share on other sites More sharing options...

If you could start a new post with details of your exact situation, we'll do our best to help.[edit]It is my personal preference to always use a PCI or PCCard NIC as opposed to a USB Device whenever possible.
