vr_driver Posted February 15, 2005 Report Share Posted February 15, 2005 Hi Guys (and girls)I just thought I'd write about a problem that I have on two windows computers...This is really strange behaviour, and I've never seen it happen before, so anyone who can help, that would be great. I'll explain and give you a quick history so you know where I'm coming from.A while ago, I upgraded and bought a new computer for my mum, and loaded XP on it - no problemsIn the past, it was a win98 box, and it handled all of the internet capabilities - connection sharing basically. Eeverything was working with no probs, as we also have 2 other computers connected to the net via this one - using dail up too I might add.We were using netscape 4.7 as the mail program and everything worked. Since the upgrade to XP, I put on the latest mozilla and have been using that as the email client. This is where the fun begins.**** this is the problem bit...Sending emails works fine, well anything under about 100k... But once we try and send any emails larger, the computer just decides to stop sending the email to our smtp server... This rare behaviour also happens on my XP machine. Before changing both over to XP, everyworked, even on my XP machine.This is the weirder thing.I also have linux running on my computer. It CAN send emails of any size... and doesn't seem to be effected by this problem. So I am left scratching my head without any answers as to why the windows machines can't send emails of 100k (as a rough figure) or more.Does anyone know what this could be???And yes, all email settings are correct, pop and smpt settings included. I've even tried using Outlook, with the same results, except it returns with a 'timeout' error of some sort. So this is not application specific - I'm sure.I've tried calling our ISP mob, and they aren't much help....If anyone can help or shed some light, that would be wonderful. Tony Posted February 15, 2005 Report Share Posted February 15, 2005 HiI get the exact same problem, it is my Antivirus program that is stopping it, i use Avast Anti Virus, you can adjust the settings in avast to allow it to send mails of a bigger size. also you can adjust the time out setting in avast to a longer one, 600 is the max i think.But niether of these worked for me, so i just told it not to check outgoing mail, and all is fine now.But if you use Avast it is worth trying the settings first before you turn off "check outgoing mail"Good luckTony Quote Link to comment Share on other sites More sharing options...
