ja988
I had originally posted in 'software problems' because I couldn't connect to the internet after installing SP2. There were so many viruses and spyware that I decided to take the original system restore cds and just start over. Now, when I run the 1st one it gets up to 30% and says "an unknown error has occurred. Your system may not operate correctly." Now windows won't boot up, and my computer is basically useless. I'm hoping that maybe it's the condition of the cd and not my computer. any ideas? Thanks
-pops-
What system restore CDs are we considering here? Are they recovery discs from your computer supplier? If so, who is that?If not, can you give us more detail about the discs?Do you have an original Windows XP disc?
ja988
yes, they are the original discs that came with the sony vaio computer; all 3 system recovery and all 3 application recovery discs. any suggestions?
-pops-
I'm not very au fait with Vaio computers but a friend has one and with his there is only one recovery disc, not as in your case.I believe that Windows is in a hidden partition on the hard drive and the recovery disc just allows you to access this to enable a re-installation.How old is the machine? With Sony, they are normally very helpful when things go wrong, even though the machine could be out of warranty. If you don't have any luck getting it going, try taking it to your local Sony dealer. I notice, though that you are located in Afghanistan   but I'm sure that there will be a dealer in Kabul who can help. -pops-
I was serious about my suggestion of going to a Sony dealer, whether you live in Afghanistan or even Illinois.
