Win98 network password

Recommended Posts

Following my "disappearing partition" experience, I decided to reformat the disk and start again. I reloaded Win98SE and included one or two network bits thinking that I might connect my machines later. However, I now get the annoying request to enter a network password for MS Networking when I boot up. Can I get rid of this so that it doesn't appear any more?

Search for a password list file (Start, Find, and in the dialogue box type *.pwl). Find it and delete it. If you have multiples, it's ok to delete them all in Windows 98. When you login again, make sure your user name's ok and leave the password blank. Hit Enter and it will log you in with a blank password which will not prompt you in the future.

You can try Start, Settings, Control Panel, and double click the Passwords icon. In the Password Properties window, select the User Profiles tab and make sure All users of this computer use the same preferences and desktop settings radio button. If this was already selected, please post.
