korgg Posted March 10, 2005 Report Share Posted March 10, 2005 Very short: I have windows XP and 98 installed on different primary partitions ...The problem is that I forgot how to install XP o I'd have 98 still running ...Now I know :D But how do I add the partition with 98 to the boot menu and use 98 sistem ?In fact what do I write to boot.ini ? I have the same boot.ini conf...But the problem is that when i select windows 98 in the boot menu i get an error message saying something about bootsect.dos file which I do not have ... I have watched the other topic on dual boot from this section ...And seems that someone come up with a link that just might do the trick..http://support.microsoft.com/kb/q153762/On the short way: boot from an msdos boot disk .do this: a:\sys c: Reboot and put your win 2K/xp rescue disk (or cd-rom) and press r when it askes you what you wanna do...do a: fixmbrthen: After you repair the Windows boot sector, you need to manually edit the Boot.ini file to include an option to boot to MS-DOS. The Boot.ini file is a read-only, hidden, system file that is located in the root folder of the boot drive. Add the following line to the Boot.ini file under the operating systems section:c\="Microsoft windows 98 ".I think this should do it...I'll tell you more about it tomorrow...
