djohn
It sounds as though the driver update did not take. Re-boot and tap the F8 key to take you to the boot screen where you chose "Safe Mode" from, this time select "Safe Mode with Networking" from the choices offered. This will give you the display back in basic mode, it will look strange, rather like an oil painting with large text and graphics. From here re-install your new driver or return back to the old driver if you can't get the new one to work. While in safe mode right click your mouse on the desktop, choose properties > settings > advanced > monitor and set the refresh to 60 hertz if using a TFT type monitor. Please post back if you require further help. :)

djohn
Hi allyk, Its important that you choose "Safe Mode with networking" not just "Safe Mode". Have you tried this option? :)
allyk
it does not boot up in either mode!!!, think he has sussed it now, he has a Silicon Image SiI 3112 on his hard drives, he tried to do a recovery but it does not detect the hard drives, he needs to get the installation drivers disk, think we may have sorted it, thanks for your help anyway. :)
