I am trouble getting my two computers to talk to each other. They are connected with the cable and then they start to look for each other. The moniter on both machines is showing a magnifying glass circling around a tiny computer screen. This just goes on for ever and they seem to connect with one another. Thanks for any help you can send my way.

tundrak,

I'm moving your post to the Networking ForumNetworking Forum. Please go to a command prompt (Start, Run, and in the Open dialogue type cmd, then hit Enter) on the XP machine and type ipconfig /all. Paste the results in here by right clicking on the title bar of the command window and choosing Edit, Select all.

Please then open Note Pad, and go to Edit, Paste, or go directly into a post here and right click in it then choose Edit, Paste. Post the results.

On the 98 machine, you can do the same, except type command in the Start, Run dialogue instead of cmd. (For those who don't know this, cmd runs the dos emulation in 32 bit mode in NT based computers, while command runs it in 16 bit mode).
