Hard drive boot up.... long pause

Recommended Posts

I recently had to switch the hard drive in my Gateway 450 laptop. It was slowly dying. I replaced the 20 gig IBM hard drive with a Gateway provided Hitachi 30 gig. Now when I boot up, there is a long pause, about 25 to 30 seconds, between when the bios is done posting and when the Windows logo appears on the screen. This use to be around 3 to 5 seconds. The hard drive light is not blinking, so I don't think there is much activity going on with the drive. It's as if some command has to time out before it continues.

I tried messing with the jumper, but to no end. I currently do not have a jumper placed, this is how the old drive was configured. I think this sets it to be a master.

Any suggestions?

The bios is surprisingly simple. No such setting.

I've messed with all the setting, and nothing has worked. There are 2 channels, the primary master is the hard drive, and the secondary master is the cd rom drive. There doesn't appear to be any slaves on either channel. I tried acknowleging the primary channel only, but this did not help.

Try to set your hdd as Master or Slave.. Put the pin in the right position...

Maybe there is no setting with no pin.. I had this kind of trouble with Western digital hdd where there is a difference between master with slave and master single... And you should look on top of your hdd for a drawing of pin settings...
