atco
Hello all,My first post after spending hours searching for a solution to this problem, but I came up with nothing, I am hoping someone here can help.My PC is running XP Pro and has 3 hard drives (C, D and F) and my DVD/CD RW drive was E.I burned a DVD last night and after the burn finished the computer unexpectedly shut down (I used Nero for the burn, which was successfully done). It rebooted but when I went to check the disk I clicked on E and then Explore and all I got was the desktop. Right clicking to show properties also showed the DVD as empty. I could not open the DVD either. However the disk contained pictures and when I autoplayed it, it displayed a slideshow of the images.I tried the Disk on my laptop and it works just fine.I tried other CDs and DVDs and all had the same problem, trying to explore the disk or do anything with drive E resulted in either the desktop appearing or nothing happening.I changed the drive letter to G and everything worked perfectly I could explore, read and write.Obviously something has screwed up in windows can anyone tell me how to fix this so I can re-assign E to my DVD drive?I hate having unresolved problems !!Thanks
ɹəuəllıʍ ʇɐb
Well, what happens if you reassign it back to E - does the problem come back?
atco
Yes it does.Basically I cannot assign E to my CD drive at all. When I plugged in my Compact Flash card reader though it was assigned E and that worked perfectly...........just the CD drive will not work (I tried 2 different CD drives and both had the same problem)
