Outlook 2003 trying to retrieve data from Exchange

Hi,

I have rolled out Outlook 2003 in the Office, but after some time problems started to appear. The oulook clients keep getting a pop-up that "Outlook is trying to retrieve data from the Exchange server".

I've checked around and apparently this is normal, but I want to disable it from showing because I'm getting t oo many support calls from people who think that there's something wrong with the Exchange server. As far as I can tell, performance monitoring is within bounds, our network isn't heavily congested or anything.

I know there's a way of disabling it on a per user basis via registry editing HKCU, but is there a way for the whole machine? Would it work to modify the same registry keys for HKLM as for HKCU ?

I am usually getting this message balloon when there are delays in the network. For me it is useful to know that there are network problems (Outlook tends to hang when it loses contact with the Exchange Server).

If some users don't want to know that Outlook is having difficulties to connect to the Exchange Server, you could increase the default time it takes for the balloon to appear. I would use GPEDIT with the OUTLK11.ADM template (Outlook System Tray Icon). It is certainly safer than editing the registry manually.
