dogbreath1
On a forum not too far away VoG™ kindly pointed me to a thread which enabled me to make two changes to my internet settings which then allowed my Outlook Express to recover my Hotmail Plus mail. Unfortunately, the same settings will not permit a similar account in Incredimail to connect to Hotmail Plus. I am getting various errors whick include- Server Details 'Not Supported' and Server Details 'Service Unavailable'. I am repeatedly asked to check my User Name and Password details, but these are correct. Any help would be welcome. In particular, if any of you guys out there have a successful Incredimail/Hotmail marriage, it would be interesting to know what your various settings are. For the record, I have tried configuring Incredimail by two methods, 1. 'Automatically configure settings' (which although marked as recommended in the dialogue box, is not the recommended method on the Incredimail help site) and, 2. 'Let me configure settings myself' (which, when entering your Hotmail details only wants to give the options of POP or IMAP and not HTTP as it needs to be for Hotmail Plus). Thanks in anticipation. db.
Scarecrow Man
does this help?
dogbreath1
does this help? Thanks for the reply. The page that you've linked to is the page which I referred to above in my quote...."which although marked as recommended in the dialogue box, is not the recommended method on the Incredimail help site". As with many connection problems, I suspect that the solution will be simple...though it still evades me at the moment! Thanks again for trying though. :)
Scarecrow Man
Server URL - http://services.msn.com/svcs/hotmail/httpmail.asp.Login Name - the complete hotmail address "[email protected]".Password - the password he/she registered with.Above from http://help.lockergnome.com/lofiversion/in...php/t33381.html-----------According to http://www.incredimail.com/english/faq_ind...ve/hotmail.html you are required to put in, name, email address, username and password. No server. name = your name, email address = email address, username is also email address (hotmail uses the email address as a username) and password is the password used for hotmail.Do you have an area where you can specify a server? dogbreath1
Cheers Scarecrow Man. The server URL is the one that I have used (since there is an area in the Incredimail setup where you can specify a server). I have used two options for login name- '[email protected]' and 'user', since both have been recommended in different places (and at the moment, neither have worked). In fact, Hotmail's own advice is to use 'user'. I have also carefully followed the Incredimail FAQ guidance. If it helps, I an 99% sure that the problem is an Internet Options/Control Panel issue. Earlier today, I couldn't get Outlook Express to connect to Hotmail Plus and the symptoms were very similar to those which I am now experiencing with Incredimail. Following help from VoG™, two changes were made to Control Panel>Internet Options. 1. Internet Options>Privacy>Allow All Cookies, and 2. Internet Options>Security>Settings tab>Internet Zone>Custom Level tab>User Authentication (last entry)>check the box Automatic Logon With Current User And Password. This solved the Outlook Express problem, yet Incredimail is still not connecting.
Scarecrow Man
Interesting...I would restore all Internet Explorer security options to default and try again.
dogbreath1
Thanks for that Scarecrow Man. I'll give that a try tomorrow. Goodnight for now. Cheers and take care! db.
dogbreath1
I have now managed to get Incredimail to 'speak' to Hotmail Plus. Just in case anyone else gets the same problem, this is what I did. Incidentally, the following way goes against both Incredimail and Hotmail advice- but it worked for me. Configure Outlook Express to accommodate Hotmail http://www.isaserver.org/img/upl/exchangek...oe/clientoe.htmAlthough Hotmail suggest that username only needs to be everything before the .co.uk, don't believe it. For 'user', username should be [email protected]. Then open Incredimail and using similar steps as for Outlook Express (Tools>Accounts etc) choose the option Automatically Configure Settings (which is the recommended option in the dialogue box but not the recommended option should you read the advice on the Incredimail site). This has the effect of showing what accounts are already configured in Outlook Express. Highlight Hotmail and make sure that the following settings are applied (some are imported from OE, some need manual insertion):-GENERAL TABAccount Name- HotmailDisplay Name- useremail address- [email protected]check the box for 'Include this account when receiving mail'.SERVER TABServer URL- http://services.msn.com/svcs/hotmail/httpmail.aspUsername- [email protected] (again, contrary to advice given by Hotmail)Password- obviously complete this and if desired check the box 'Remember Password'ADVANCED TABCheck the boxes for 'Leave A Copy Of Messages On Server' and 'Apply The Junk Filter When Receiving Messages To This Account'.Connection should now be possible. Thanks to Scarecrow Man for trying hard to sort my problem. Cheers. db.EDIT: Fixed link. -- SM
Scarecrow Man
Thanks for the info DB. Seems incredimail itself cannot or does not support hotmail. Your method shows making the Hotmail account in OE and then importing settings. Good idea... why didn't I think of that. :P
