hi all, I cannot log onto my computor as i am denied access because it wont accept my password. I believe i have put the right password in but as this was the first time i had decided to enable a log on password i cant say that it work previously. How can i delete the password or gain entry back into my computor. I was told the only way would be to reformat. But this is also denied me as it still rewuires me to log on first even if i put my windows xp start disc in at start up. How can I get access back to the computer. I am running xp home editio. At present I am using my sons computer.

If you have a separate Administrator user, then you may be able to solve your problem without a reinstall from scratch. Try to login to the default admin user 'Administrator'; if you remember the password you selected during the installation, use it. (Most people I know don't enter an Administrator password during the installation, so they can login with a blank password).

Good luck!

[Added] Once you are in as Administrator, you can change the other users' passwords.

Sorry for the delay. Sorry also that I cannot quite understand your reply.

Do I understand this correctly: the login panel shows your default login name? Can't you overtype it? If you can, try 'Administrator' (with an upper-case 'A') and a blank password.

If you do have to reformat, you just boot into your Windows CD-ROM; it allows you to reformat and reinstall from there. But I think you should be able to reset your password by using the Administrator user.
