micken
Hi, I have a small home network and I've recently had to remove a printer from one desktop machine due to lack of space. No probs I thought, simple to set up remaining one. I've read the Networking Guide 3 here just to make sure I've got my brain the right way round  Both machines run Win XP Sp2 and NIS 2005 and I've configured the firewall on both to allow the relevant range of IP addresses.I've followed all the necessary instructions in order to allow the two machines to communicate and the printer is ready to be seen. When I try to add the printer to the remote machine by browsing for it I get a "Microsoft windows Network" listed under shared computers but I can't get any further.I'm now lost for ideas :( How about you guys? micken
Got fed up trying to figure out what was wrong so reconnected the second printer back in. Tried working through the sharing process from the other direction and hey-presto it worked and printed.Obviously the system's working the opposite way round to what I originally wanted (and still do!). But at least I'm now convinced that my brain is the right way round. Since I've put the second printer back in I'll keep it there until some bright spark comes up with an idea or so about the original problem.Strange but true :teehee:
homecomputeraid
Hi Micken, but I can't get any further. What kind of error, if any do you get?If you know the computer name and share name of the printer, you could go to Start, Run, and type \\computername\printersharename, replacing computername and printersharename with the real names. Sometimes Windows browsing is finicky, but telling it where to find the resouce manually works.Let us know if you want to try moving it back again.Sincerely,

micken
Tried that over the weekend but no luck. Will leave alone right now and come back to it when less busy, it's not a major issue now that I've put the extra printer back.RegardsMick
