danison
HiI have installed XP Pro SP2 and since doing that cannot make Media Player play any sound. The screen indicates it is playing however you need to turn the volume as high as it can go to even detect that there is any sound there, and it will not play normally. I am running McAfee firewall, and have checked settings as well as the firewall for XP SP2. I have run diagnostics off the Microsoft site and all the settings inc Direct X are ok.Any other media players I have such as Quicktime, or mp3 splitters with a play option, work fine.Appreciate any advice!CheersBill
andsome
Welcome to NP. One of the experts will no doubt help. I think you will find that most XP users on the forum have SP2 installed. I certainly have and WMP is fine. What version are you using, number 10 is available now. If you have an old version maybe it is not compatible? danison
Thanks, I am running WMP 10 and it is not working. Have redownloaded and still the same. Strange, as you can see the file operating however there is no sound. If however I use the Windows diagnostics off the MS site, and type wmplayer2 into the Run command, I can hear the file fine, so does not seem to be the drivers or the speakers. For some reason the full program just does not want to run any longer!I run full virus scans, spyware scans etc so am confident it is not a bug in the system causing it. Look forward to hearing from some experts!! :)
