winlogon.exe is slow

I have some win 2000 pc's on my win 2003 network that are slow booting up, and the offending process is winlogon.exe. It can make the processor go to 80-100% for 3-5 minutes. What in the heck is the problem?

this process is responsible for managing user logon and logoff, both in Windows 2000 and Windows XP. It is perfectly normal and safe, AS LONG ASIT'S IN THE SYSTEM32 FOLDER! If it's running from anywhere else, it's a FAKE - some malware often names itself as a trusted program, only in another directory.

It looks like you need the help of one of the spyware specialists.
