i use the XP defragmenter

However i see you use windows 98

Would you like the other defragmenter that i have for windows 98? that makes it much faster to defrag as i know 98 is very slow

If you would just e-mail me and i will mail you back with the exact instructions what to do

Thanks everyone for the information...defragging is something that I have never really thought about before, just used to do it on a regular basis then forget about it. It was only when I ran my tests at the Pitstop that I realised there was perhaps a bit more to it than I thought!!!

So not only does your defragging need to be regular but effective as well!

Something to bear in mind folks! ;)

well I defragged AGAIN!!! and madboy you were right........the defragging was a lot faster using that program.....nifty!!! :D But, I ran my pitstop test again and 30% of my data still needs to be tidied up...Grrrrr! So I will try disk keeper lite next. I am afraid if I can get it for free then I will go down that route first!! :)

Thanks for your input everyone!!

Hold on folks

A defragmenter is a defragmenter is a defragmenter!

I looked at Nellies PCPITSTOP results and see she has some different cluster sizes on her HDD in her partitions

This could be the cause of it.

i would not worry to much nellie

p.s Nellie it is the windows ME defragmenter

Yes......funny you should say that Madboy, someone at the Pitstop mentioned my cluster size!!! Said he wondered why I had set mine to 4kb when it defaulted to 16kb........ To be honest I don't think I have ever set a cluster size in my life!!!

Anyway, the PC is working fine so I am not too bothered but I will be sure to check my sizes next time I reformat or reload windows or whatever. :)

The only application software I have ever paid for was Ontrack's utility suite SystemSuite 4.0 (only paid because one copy of it was was seriously mispriced in PC World ! - only £14.99 :o ) That has their JetDefrag in - which I do find excellent.
