sierra9987
I have a P4 3Ghz desktop with a Gigabyte 8S661FXM motherboard. I'm attempting to add a USB2.0/IEEE1394 combo card (VIA chipset)to any one of three available PCI ports. After the card is installed, Windows XP does not recognize it as a IEEE1394 adapter so it doesn't install the driver for it. I get a message that the installation of the new hardware has failed. Then for some reason the "on board" ethernet NIC does not work anymore.(no internet access) I checked the Device Manager list and the NIC does show up under Network Adapters, but it is now listed as a hidden device and it says that no drivers are installed for it. Under Other Devices, Ethernet Controller is listed with a Yellow question mark after it. Under Universal Serial Bus Controller there are now some new USB entries that also have a yellow question mark beside them.I have tried installing this card in all three PCI ports and I tried disableing the On Board Ethernet port in the BIOS, but it still won't install properly. Is there some other settings on this motherboard that I need to change to install this card? Anything else I need do to? Help!!!!!!Thanks....Todd
dadyassa
Mine is listed as a bus host controller not an adapter. The USB`s show up in Universal serial bus controller also, but with no yellow exclamation marks. It also shows up as a network adapter ? with a code 10 on it, but as the firewire card works I have left it as is.Right click on exclamation mark and select properties, you may be able to update driver there. Scarecrow Man
Do a system restore to a point BEFORE you made any hardware changes, install the drivers first, and then shut down and add the hardware.
dadyassa
My card didn`t have any drivers or cd with it, it just said on the box it would use windows own drivers, which it did. On screenshot. If it doesn`t work in any slot maybe its a duff card.
sierra9987
Do a system restore to a point BEFORE you made any hardware changes, install the drivers first, and then shut down and add the hardware.Install what drivers? From my understanding, windows has all the drivers I need? It is suppose to be a simple plug&play install. After doing some more reading, I'm starting to hear that XP and the VIA chipset in this card don't get along. Anyone else seen this before?
