Cant Install windows 98/me on laptop

Hi guys,

I have a Toshiba 220cs laptop notebook. And it had windows 95 on it. But it would say certain files in system were missing.

So i decided to format it with my trusty win98 boot disk. All went well. but the problem comes when I want 2 install windows from the CD

I have to take out the Floppy drive and install the CD drive to get the windows cd on. I reboot and the CD does not bootup.

It says invalid system disk.

and I cannot go any further.

I put the floppy drive back in and tried to load with CD drom support but it says nno CD rom drive found.

I need to know how I can install Windows on this laptop.

I have tried making a bootable CD via Nero and its not picking that up :(

Are you sure that the CD is indeed bootable?

Have you checked the boot sequence in the BIOS (floppy, CD-ROM, HD) ?

Don't know if this is the same in your case but, I have known computers, especially laptops, to only be capable of having their original operating system re-installed. This is because the recovery disk (or whatever they call it) is not a full disk containing the operating system but one that points to a hidden partition on the hard drive containing all the things to get the computer up and running again.

If this is the case with your machine, nothing you do will persuade it to accept another operating system of to recognise a different boot disk. You could replace the hard drive but that is drastic action with no guarantee that it will work and the economics may just not be worth it.

If Windows 95 is its own O/S, it is ten years or so old - a long time in computer terms. As you know, there have been several Windows versions since 1995, perhaps it's time to think about a more modern system.
