Erica Posted November 24, 2005 Report Share Posted November 24, 2005 When I try to connect to the internet (through dial-up) it says my modem isn't hooked up. (Right now i'm on my mom's VERY OLD and BAD computer to type this out..)This confused me, because it's always worked before. So I looked into it, and it says my modem was removed. The only thing I can think of, is my friend was over earlier and connected her Ipod to my computer.. before she removed her Ipod she clicked on something like, "safetly remove hardware". Do you think that could have removed it??? Because everything was FINE before she came over. Grrr.How can I un-remove it.. and get my modem back? I'm not too great with computers, but I can't get it looked at, because i'll only be home until Monday, and when I go back to my apartment I will never have time to get it fixed anywhere...I don't want to completely erase everything from my computer. Is your moded connected via USB? If so, just reboot, and the USB hardware will be reconnected.If this is not the case, can you give some more details, e.g. your Windows version, your modem type, your driver version, etc.Talking about driver - can you open the Device Manager and look up your modem, i.e. if it shows any errors? trackrat Posted November 24, 2005 Report Share Posted November 24, 2005 To check your internet connection if you are using XP,Click start / control panel / network & internet connections / network connections.If there is nothing there as Pat suggested look in Device manager, to access this, click start / Right click My computer / click Properties / click Hardware / click Device manager / then have a look for any entry that has a yellow or red mark against it.If you find one right clck the entry and click properties this will tell you what the fault is, then post back here for further help. trackrat Posted November 24, 2005 Report Share Posted November 24, 2005 Just a thought if you are on XP have you tried a System Restore back to when it worked.Click Start / All Programs / Accessories / System tools System restore, then click on restore my computer to an earlier time and the bold dates are what you can restore too.
