Uninstalling Spybot S&D

Recommended Posts

Hello All,

I have clicked on the file menu within Spybot Search and Destroy and clicked Uninstall. It then tells me that this will execute a part uninstall (removing registry settings) and all I need to do is close the program down and delete it's directory. I am not sure if this means it's folder within Program Files, so could someone clarify that for me please?

I know that just plain deleting a folder can cause problems

I then went into Add/Remove programs and clicked remove, it just launches Spybot and doesn't go any further.

Can anyone help me with this please?

It is affecting some of the sites I go to and not letting them load up properly. :( :(

Directory is another name for folder yes. Just deleting a folder causes probs because all the registry stuff is still there.......that is why you have to uninstall. I have never known anything to uninstall the way you described but if those are the instructions then give it a go.

Yep Sureshot, That's what to do. I uninstalled it myself some weeks ago as I had problems with it too. Strange isn't it how so many programmes work perfectly with some machines and setups and not others.

Regards,

I followed the instructions and also deleted the folder, but I also checked the website and it says you have to delete a folder in Documents and settings/All Users/Application Data. So I have done that now too.

It seems to be gone! It was version 1.1 that I had but I am not sure if I will install the new one. I can't say that being without it ever caused me problems.

Thansk for the help guys.

Everyone has their own opinions but I just use Ad-aware, Spyware Blaster and SwatIt now, in addition to firewall and AV of course. Too many things and you seem to be constantly updating.

Spyware Blaster seems good to me as Ad-aware seems only very rarely to find anything.

LOLOLOl Sureshot, trouble is you see, conflicts!!

Conflicts are difficult coves by nature. Quite often you will see on other forums people complaining that they have just installed such & such, or indeed removed, and it has caused problems.

The last thing installed or un-installed does not necessarily have to be the reason. It could be anything else installed at any other time that is causing the conflict.
