USB flash drive - unknown device

Hi... I have a USB flash drive which isn't working in my hub. I'm using Windows 2000 with a QDI Kudoz 7X motherboard which has built-in USB 2.0. If I plug the drive into any of the board's ports (2 directly on the board, and 4 which are on a backing plate and connect to the board with wires), it works perfectly.

I have just fitted this Belkin USB 2.0 hub with an NEC chipset. Now, every other USB device I have, including a flash drive/mp3 player, work fine. When I plug the original flash drive back in, it is detected as just 'USB' and comes up as an unknown device in device manager. Now, if I reinstall the hub's driver (Generic USB Hub), keeping the same one from usb.inf, the drive suddenly works! Then if I unplug it and plug it back in again, it changes back to being an unknown device.

Any ideas?
