Is the XP Pro machine part of a Domain? Is it, or has it ever been used on a corporate Domain?

[edit]Also, please make sure both computers have Client for Microsoft Networks installed:

Go Start, Control Panel (click Switch to Classic View on left), double click Network Connections. In the window that opens, right click Local Area Connection then click on Properties in the menu that pops up. Make sure Client for Microsoft Networks is listed in Local Area Connection Properties on both computers, and that it is checked.

And make sure neither has Internet Connection Sharing enabled.

No the xp pro machine is not part of a domain, the laptop(xppro) was bought brand new at christmas.

Both computers have Client for Microsoft Networks checked.

The laptop dose have a INTERNET CONNECTION SHARING facility under wireless network connection properties ADVANCED.

the desktop has no such thing, desktop has only a WINDOWS FIREWALL facility and no internet sharing facility.

i think i've mentioned the laptop connects to the internet by wireless through the desktop and this is working fine,

The laptop does have a INTERNET CONNECTION SHARING facility under wireless network connection properties ADVANCED.

When you say it has an Internet Connection Sharing Facility, is it being used? We want to ensure that it is NOT being used.

The INTERNET CONNECTION SHARING has a check box which states ALLOW OTHER NETWORK USERS TO CONNECT THROUGH THIS COMPUTERS INTERNET CONNECTION.

This check box is unchecked,
